Visits to the Quinta experience
Quinta de Luou provides a range of activities within the limits of the farm.
We highlight the following activities:
– Wine tasting,
– Visits to the farm,
– Meals for groups, or
– Agricultural activities followed, including harvesting, herding, garden and yard works.
By appointment, it is possible to make a program that includes wine tasting, integrated into a meal, and subsequent visit to the Quinta.
Quinta de Luou is a 28-hectare property set on a plateau, with panoramic views of the valley and the adjacent hillside, and beautiful views of the Lima River from the woods.
The old wine cellar is a typical building, maintaining two stone mills at a higher level.
Walking the paths of the farm, some still with the typical branches of the region on top, allows a walk where you can observe the way the vineyards are set, cattle grazing and adjacent views.
The minimum price will be 40 € per person.
The minimum value of the program is 250 €.

Quinta Meals and
wine tasting experience

The meal will consist of soup, a regional dish, regional sweet, Quinta wines and coffee, or other menu to wake up.
The minimum price will be 40 € per person.
The minimum value of the program is 250 €.

Experience in Agricultural Activities
At Quinta de Luou you can watch or participate in agricultural activities, work in the vegetable garden or in the garden.
Take advantage of your stay to plant a tree at Quinta de Luou.
We have at your disposal the following varieties:
taxodium, cedar, stone pine and camellias.
Ask for the conditions to do so.
In the vineyards, you can participate in the high point of the activity that is the harvest, with all its hustle and bustle.
You can also watch the replacement of broken poles as well as the planting of new vines.
In the vegetable garden and in the garden, it is always interesting and rewarding to see that what we sow grows and develops.
QUINTA´S ANIMALS ACTIVITIES
At Quinta de Luou we have:
– cattle (Barrosã national breed),
– sheep,
– ducks,
– geese and
– chickens.
At certain times of the year, you can watch or participate in the activities that these animals request, such as changing grazing fields, feeding, vaccinations and others.
For the little ones, the birth of new animals is always exciting.
Adopt one of the animals born during the year, for a minimum of one year.
We have the following animals at your disposal:
lamb, goose, veal, chick and duck.
Ask for the conditions for doing so.
QUINTA´S Eco-Friendly experiences
At Quinta de Luou we implemented the following measures:
– The roads with the greatest circulation of vehicles are being prepared to eliminate soil erosion and allow the capture of rainwater.
– In several points of the Quinta, there are deposits and reservoirs of water from mines and rainwater for use in irrigation, mostly by the use of gravity.
– Lawn mowing is used to feed the chickens, ducks and geese in the Quinta, whose meat and eggs are available for sale to tourists staying at the Quinta.
– The farm has cows and sheep that are used for cleaning and fertilizing fields.
– When sheep are used in the vineyards, they reduce the use of herbicides and fertilizers.
– The manure produced by the animals is reused in the fertilization of fruit trees and in the vegetable garden, whose products are available for sale to tourists installed at the Quinta.
Houses´S Eco-Friendly experiences
At the houses of Quinta de Luou we implemented the following measures:
– There is a container only for the food waste that is used to feed the birds in the farm.
– There is a container for the coffee grounds that is reused for fertilizing trees and vegetable gardens.
– It is possible to recycle products, with a collection point in the square of the fair of Gandra.
– The water is heated using solar panels.
– Photovoltaic panels were installed to produce energy.
– Due to the hot water tank being removed from the houses, in the hours of less use (night and part of the afternoon) the recirculation of the hot water is stopped so as not to waste energy.
– The exterior lighting is switched on automatically and turns off at around one o’clock in the morning.
– The houses are cooled by wooden shutters that must be closed during the heat of the day.
– The heating of the houses is partially done with firewood from the farm itself.
